In a New Race to be Loved. . . an Easy Win!

Our Foster Program is the Backbone of Our Adoption Group. Can you Help?

Foster homes are needed.
Foster homes help the dogs make the transition from racer to pet. Foster "parents" provide temporary, loving care for greyhounds until they are on their way to new lives.
Imagine an adult dog that has never seen stairs or television or walked on tile or hardwood floors. Imagine a dog that has never seen another dog breed. a cat, or even a child. Greyhounds are that dog. Their racing lives are confined to cages and turn-out pens. Unlike other breeds, they don’t have the early one-to-one contact that dogs need. Greyhounds have lived their entire lives in a kennel situation and have no concept of what it’s like to live with a family in a house. That’s where you can help! Foster care givers can help ease the transition from the kennel to forever homes. Fosters teach dogs about houses, windows, furniture, mirrors, noises, animals (besides greyhounds), how to accept love, and how to play.
Foster care can be as short as an overnight stay after surgery to a longer term commitment that lasts until the dog gets adopted. QCG will be happy to work with you to meet your needs and match the best hound to your situation. Typically, a hound is in foster care for 1 to 3 months.
The requirements for a foster home are the same as for an adoptive home. These conditions include a home visit, a fenced yard, and the promise to keep the greyhound indoors.
QCG will provide all pre-approved medical care and support for you while the dog is in your home. We ask that the foster home provide a high- quality dry kibble, appropriate home training, a soft bed, and lots of love. Love and “good naturedness” are qualities we look for in all our fostering homes.
Foster families will also be expected to make a foster greyhound available for meet and greet events, to meet potential adopters, and to "let go" when it's time for an adoption. The foster family’s input is important in deciding whether the foster Greyhound is the right choice for prospective adopters.
If your situation doesn’t allow for adoption of a greyhound at this time in your life, please consider fostering instead. By fostering, you could be saving the life of a hound coming off the track with nowhere else to go. When your foster hound goes to a forever home, breathe a big sigh for doing a job well done, and we’ll bet you’ll be ready to foster another one.
If you are interested in opening your heart and home to greyhound fostering, please fill out our Fostering Application Form and submit it as soon as possible. Make sure to fill out the form completely so that we can determine what type of greyhound would be most suitable to your lifestyle.
